Arthur Canter is a University of Iowa professor emeritus in Iowa City, Iowa, who for over twenty years has written musical reviews and interpretations for many publications including this book with his history of Czech musicians.

Pat Martin, president of the Guild for the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids researched the saints on the Charles Bridge in Prague for a book about the figures on the bridge and then supplied excerpts about particularly important Czech Saints for his book.

Robert S. Wachal of Iowa City,  a retired professor of linguistics from the University of Iowa, has a delightful essay about growing up Czech as well as many of the profiles of famous Czechs in the book. Also contributing profiles of the famous Czechs was David Wright of Decorah, scholar and writer.

The history of the Czech Republic is told through the ages in the biographies of the people who made both the Czech homeland great and those who contributed to America.

Charles Bridge is a stone Gothic bridge that connects the Old Town and Mala Strana. It was actually called the Stone Bridge during the first several centuries. Its construction was commissioned by Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and began in 1357. It is said that egg yolks were mixed into the mortar to strengthen the construction of the bridge.
